“Busking” is the custom with artists from the most varied disciplines of performing in public, usually in order to receive some small change from the audience.
The artists who chose this kind of performances to make a living are called Buskers”, an English word which has become synonymous with “street entertainer”.
The performances will be the most varied: jugglers, clowns, singers, musicians, bands, acrobats, contortionists, fire-eaters, poets, ballad singers, mimes, living statues and many others.
It is the most immediate and natural form of entertainment since it arises from the wish to perform in front of an audience of passers-by in places which are neither theatres nor circus, but public squares and streets.
Nowadays it is quite usual to meet “buskers” in the big European towns and cities and in the United States; the quality of their performances is so high that real Busker Festivals have been organised for some years.
This year the municipality of Carloforte, to guarantee a great deal of merriment and entertainment to those whom will reach San Pietro Island on the occasion of the 6th edition of Il Girotonno, has organised the first “Carloforte Buskers Festival”.
For three days, from Friday to Sunday, the small town will become a natural stage where numerous artists coming from all over the world, will perform different disciplines without neither timetable nor rules, by guaranteeing an exciting and amusing entertainment.
