The tuna-fishing nets of Carloforte are among the most ancient of the Mediterranean, and their  productivity is at the international top as regards quality tuna. Last year 4,000 specimens of  very delicious  red tuna were fished.
Tuna is therefore strongly rooted in the tradition and history of Carloforte, having been  for years the main resource for its inhabitants.
Tuna is therefore indissolubly bound to the history and  life of Carloforte and the town has decided to proudly celebrate this long-standing relationship by organizing “Il Girotonno”, an event that has consolidated its popularity year after year .
